Nonylphenol Products & Uses
NP is primarily used as an isolated and contained chemical intermediate in the production of other compounds, such as NPEs and other polymeric and resinous products. Epoxy resins are used in fiber reinforced composites.
Octylphenol Products & Uses
OP is used exclusively as a chemical intermediate precursor in the synthesis of other substances and as a monomer in polymers. It has no uses as a direct ingredient on its own or in any formulated product that are known to APERC. The vast majority of OP is used in the manufacture of polymeric resins for rubber applications such as tires. A lesser amount of OP is used to produce octylphenol ethoxylates (OPEs), which are non-ionic surfactants.
